About the Project
Project 5 Billion is an action-based social media movement that focuses on what the individual can do to reduce their environmental impact and promote public policy for environmental change. Its name is inspired by the fact that the sun will die in five billion years. Earth could last just as long, but only if we take care of it.
Project 5 Billion is also creating a community of young environmental activists and people who want to make a difference in the world. If you're interested in joining this community, please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
About the Challenges
Project 5 Billion encourages environmental action through social media challenges and community activism. On Project 5 Billion platforms, we post biweekly challenges that encourage habit change through small but important efforts.
For example, in July 2019, Project 5 Billion challenged followers to “go vegetarian” for two weeks in order to reduce the carbon footprint of animal agriculture (image at right).
These challenges only last for two weeks, but they encourage people to make each challenge into a lifetime habit. Many of the challenges seem hard at first, but they're actually easy once you make the two-week change.
